When it comes to the 4th of July, our thoughts instantly go to firework shows, get-togethers and (naturally) barbeques. Food is probably one of the most important parts of our summer celebrations, but it’s not always easy to transport or plan meals fit for the outdoors. If you’re traveling somewhere or having an outdoor party this year, try these easy and portable snacking solutions.
1. Veggie Skewers
Raw veggies are always an easy and delicious contribution to a potluck. Take it a step further this year and skewer your veggies for a decorative twist! Veggie skewers can easily be transported, and if you end up wanting to grill them, all they need is a little oil or butter and they’re ready to cook.
2. Street Tacos
This trending food is the definition of portable. Street tacos, or walking tacos, are delicious tacos that you can eat on the go. Try some of these recipes, or try a “taco in a bag” by adding taco meat, salsa, veggies and toppings to a bag of Fritos or Doritos.
3. Beef Jerkey
If you’re concerned about being outside without a lot of refrigeration, go with beef jerky! You can make a ton of delicious recipes using beef jerky, including adding it to cold salads, wrapping it in cheese and lettuce for quick bites, or just snacking on it by itself.
4. Frozen Fruit
Frozen fruit not only tastes great and keeps you cool, it doubles as a way to keep other foods cold in coolers. Freeze fruits like grapes, watermelon, kiwis, oranges, and strawberries. Or, for a rich twist, dip bananas in melted chocolate, sprinkle with nuts and freeze overnight.
5. Mixed Nuts
You always see roasted and candied mixed nuts around the holidays, but they can be great for summer picnics too. Roast and season almonds, cashews, peanuts or a mix of everything for a delicious snackable mix everyone is sure to enjoy! You can additionally add Chex or Cheerios and M&Ms for your own homemade trail mix. We hope these ideas help inspire your 4th of July.
