Here at Quick-Set Auto Glass, we recognize the need to stay up-to-date on the latest vehicle repair technology. That’s why we’re excited to share with you our newest service: windshield recalibration. This is a service that is often needed on newer vehicles that feature Advanced Driver Assistance Features like brake assistance, lane spacing, active braking, and centerline awareness alerts. Most of these features work through vehicle cameras, and it’s important that the systems are in sync to be working properly.
What you may not know is that the main camera for ADAF systems is usually mounted to the windshield, and that windshield replacement on newer vehicles will also require follow-up recalibration. Luckily, this add-on service is now offered at Quick-Set Auto Glass! Our highly-trained professionals can recalibrate your windshield after replacement, or as a separate service.
Calibration services can be either static or dynamic. Static services are conducted in our warehouse to decode and reset windshield cameras and rearview mirror cameras. Dynamic services involve the actual driving of the vehicle in calibration mode to test and reset ADAF systems and can be completed through our mobile service. The service your vehicle requires will depend on the make and model, as well as any other services we have performed. Static recalibration is offered for $350; dynamic services at $250.
Why is recalibration so important?
ADAF technology is put in place to keep us safe, but if it’s working improperly, it can become hazardous. For example, if your camera isn’t communicating efficiently with your braking system, sudden braking or stopping could occur. Reversely, awareness sensors not picking up on nearby vehicles or pedestrians could be extremely dangerous for drivers who rely on these features.
