Just because the temperatures have dropped doesn’t mean the fun has to end. There are plenty of winter activities the whole family can enjoy in Colorado. Here are 7 of our favorites:
1. Ice Skating at DIA
The Denver International Airport (DIA) is not only our hub for vacation getaways and flights, but during the winter months, it’s also home to an ice skating rink. The rink is open from mid-November through January 1st and has daily skates from 11:00 A.M. - 7:00 P.M. Grab a free pair of skates at the skate shop which will be located inside the Westin on the west side near Tivoli restaurant and brewery and have some fun!
2. Ice Climbing in Ouray
Ice climbing is a challenging and exhilarating sport that’s perfect for adventurous families. Ouray is known as the “Switzerland of America” and is home to some of the best ice climbing in the state. If you’re new to the sport, consider taking a guided tour with one of the many experienced outfitters in town.
3. Sledding at Winter Park Resort
Winter Park Resort is one of Colorado’s most popular ski areas, but it’s also a great place for families to come and play in the snow. The resort offers sledding hills, an outdoor tube park, and even free snowshoe tours. And when everyone gets hungry, there are plenty of places to grab a bite to eat on-site.
4. Snowmobiling in Breckenridge
Breckenridge is a beautiful mountain town that’s perfect for families who love spending time outdoors. There are several companies that offer snowmobile tours geared towards kids and families. These tours are typically around 2 hours long and take you along groomed trails with gorgeous views of the mountains.
5. Visit Santa at Santa’s Village in Cripple Creek
Santa’s Village is an annual event that takes place at Ivanhoe Park in Cripple Creek from Thanksgiving through Christmas Eve. The village features live reindeer, visits with Santa, holiday-themed games and rides, and so much more. It’s the perfect place to get your family into the holiday spirit!
6. Tour a Candy Factory
Who doesn’t love candy? Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory gives tours of their candy factory in Durango where you can see how some of your favorite sweets are made! After the tour, be sure to stop by their chocolate shop where you can purchase some delicious treats to take home with you.
7. Soak in Some Hot Springs
There’s nothing quite like soaking in a hot spring to warm up on a cold winter day. Colorado has no shortage of amazing hot springs, but our favorites for families are Iron Mountain Hot Springs near Glenwood Springs and Valley View Hot Springs near Buena Vista. These hot springs offer kid-friendly pools where everyone can relax and enjoy stunning views of the mountains.
From outdoor adventures to more low-key activities, there are plenty of things to do with your family this winter in Colorado . So bundle up, head outside, and from all of us here at Quick-Set Auto Glass drive safely out there!
