Unfortunately, car theft and break-ins have been on the rise in Colorado and here at Quick-Set Auto Glass, we want to do anything in our power to keep you and your loved ones safe in our beautiful state. To help, we would like to present to you tips that may help prevent car theft and break-ins into your vehicle.
Do Not Leave Valuables in Your Car
One thing that is likely to make your vehicle more prone to a break-in is the sight of valuables. Purses, shopping bags, cell phones, laptops, and other valuables let a thief know that it is worthy of the effort and time to attempt to break in. Instead, consider leaving your valuables at home, with you, or in the trunk of your car where it is out of sight.
Park in Well-Lit or Monitored Areas
When given a choice of where to park, pick a space that is under a light pole, in front of retail, or is highly trafficked. This can deter a thief as they can be concerned of being monitored, seen, or recorded.
Have A Car Alarm
Audible car alarms are superior to anti-theft devices such as steering wheel locks, window etching, or an alarm light - but having both an audible alarm AND an anti-theft device is even better. If your car did not come with an audible car alarm that sounds when the car is opened without the key or while the alarm is on, then you can look into a mechanic or alarm tech to install one for you.
Roll Up Your Windows, Lock Your Car, and Take Your Keys
We do not want to forget the most important steps and what seems like the most obvious. Please remember to roll your windows and sunroof up, ensure all your doors lock when clicking your lock button, and do not leave your car running with your keys inside. This is one of the easiest ways to get your car stolen. We recommend that you should not even leave your spare key hidden inside your vehicle.
Car Tracking Device
If you feel your vehicle is exposed to many scenarios or situations in which it could be stolen, it may be a good idea to go the extra mile and purchase a car-theft tracking device. Most of these devices can be plugged into an On Board Diagnostic Port and can make recovering your stolen vehicle a lot more simple.
