Anyone who watches TV commercials knows: the holiday season is prime time for auto deals. The next year’s hottest new models are coming out, prices are slashed, and deals are just about everywhere. If you’re thinking about investing in a new car soon, consider these test drive tips before you shop.
1. Research First
Before you go wandering around a well-lit showroom, have an idea of what you’re looking for. Do some research on makes and models that would work for you, as well as the current deals, how much your payments would be, and the basics of the vehicle. A few things you should consider and make a list of include gas mileage, upkeep, safety features, and warranty information.
2. Know What to Look For
Before you get behind the wheel, make a list of things you need to pay attention to during the drive. Does the car fit you comfortably? Will it fit in your garage? Does it have enough internal space? How does it handle? Does it have the latest technology features? These are all things you should think about before you get it out on the road. It will make your test drive more effective.
3. Bring a Friend
Getting a second opinion is always helpful. Bring along a buddy or your significant other to ride with you. They can offer advice and ask questions that you might not have thought of. Additionally, they can help you resist sales pitches or pressure that you might experience alone.
4. Drive a Variety of Roads
Test driving a vehicle around the block of the dealership doesn’t quite cut it. Make sure you test it on a variety of different roads. If the dealership allows, take it on a highway where you can go above 50 to test speed and acceleration. Also, try it on roads with stop signs or stoplights so you can test the brakes.
5. Sleep on It
It can be tempting to just say “let’s do it!” after a successful test drive, but let yourself think it over a while before you commit. Give yourself plenty of time to do this so you aren’t pressured by a one-day sale or an expiring holiday offer. Buying a car is a big investment and you don’t want to make a mistake.
Hopefully these tips make you feel a bit more prepared to shop for cars this holiday season. Being mindful of what you want and what you don’t want is key when you get that new vehicle out on the road. From all of us here at Quick-Set Auto Glass, drive safely out there!
