To Tint or Not to Tint? Pros and Cons of Window Tinting

Tinted windows in vehicles are something you likely see every day but don’t really think about. Some vehicles are heavily tinted while others have no tint at all. There are a few reasons why window tinting is ideal for safety and vehicle upkeep, but also a few important rules to follow.

Pros:

Window tinting helps keep your vehicle cooler, protects the seats and interior from harsh sunlight, and provides a certain level of privacy. It can make back seats safer for kids by protecting them from overheating or getting sunburned and helps conserve energy inside the vehicle. Additionally, it helps drivers see better when it’s sunny or reflective outside, and protects the glass from completely shattering if it breaks.

Cons:

The main drawback of tinted windows is that they can often be too dark. Some states actually have regulations for how dark your windows can legally be. Darker tint makes it difficult for drivers to see their surroundings, including dangerous blind spots. This risk increases at night or during bad weather. Another consideration for window tinting is reflectiveness. Reflective or mirrored tint keeps light out but is often illegal. It can create visibility issues for other drivers.

If you’re considering tinting or re-tinting your windows, do your research first to know the legal levels and what kind of tint you can apply. Also, be sure to have them professionally tinted so you don’t run the risk of damaging your windows. From all of us here at Quick-Set Auto Glass, drive safely out there!
